General Position Summary

Lids is striving to become a data driven company and requires a talented individual to fulfill the BI Architect role. The role will support BI initiatives across different business areas by ensuring information is delivered in a timely and accurate manner that is easily understood by all end users. As a BI Architect, you’ll be expected to:

  • · Provide solutions that address technical and functional problems
  • · Size and setup cloud resources
  • · Hands on development
  • · Guide and influence other on best practices
  • · Perform code reviews
  • · Optimize code for performance and reliability
  • · Troubleshoot technical/functional issues.
  • · Setup CI/CD processes to streamline delivery processes

Lids is predominantly using Microsoft Azure technologies with an Enterprise Data Warehouse architecture but looking to enable a Data Lake and Fabric for future growth.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide ownership of Business Intelligence and Reporting systems.
  • Technical, strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities across BI-related areas:
  • Data preparation (sourcing, acquisition, integration), data warehousing, reporting, analytics, data exploration, and information delivery (portals, mobile).
  • Develop and maintain Azure Data Factory ETL packages to import and organize BI data.
  • Ensure data accuracy.
  • Identify data sources, build decomposition and flow diagrams, and document processes.
  • Design and develop Business Intelligence and Reporting systems.
  • Identify and connect additional data sources (e.g., business-critical systems, external sources) and add new fields from existing sources into the Data Warehouse/BI environment.
  • Translate business requirements into data models, develop and schedule ETLs, build data cubes, and validate results.
  • Support implemented BI solutions by monitoring and tuning queries and data loads, resolving data integrity issues, monitoring performance, and addressing technical concerns.
  • Provide on-call support for off-hours issues.
  • Offer expert-level guidance and perform code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
  • Size and configure Azure resources.
  • Participate in change control activities.
  • Create and maintain documentation for operations, installations, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.
  • Expand technical knowledge of Lids IT systems and tools.
  • Support and follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Manage goals and objectives established with the supervisor.
  • Communicate with employees at all levels of the company.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Required Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of business experience in moderate to large-sized corporate environments.
  • 7+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or higher.
  • 5+ years with Analysis Services (DAX) programming.
  • 5+ years with Azure resource setup.
  • Must have prior experience designing and setting up an enterprise data warehouse.
  • Extensive database system knowledge, theory, security, design, capacity planning, performance analysis, and change management.

Proven track record in the following:

  • Azure Data Factory

  • Azure SQL / Microsoft SQL Server

  • Transact SQL

  • Intermediate to complex stored procedures and triggers

  • Analysis Services (SSAS) – Tabular Modeling

  • DAX

  • Power BI

  • Entity Relationship Diagram development

  • Managed Data Lake / Warehouse

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365

  • Programming experience in Python or .NET, SSRS, or SSIS is a plus

  • Understanding of Azure Security

  • Fabric and OneLake

  • Extensive expertise in data modeling (logical and physical)

  • 3NF, Slowly Changing Dimensions, Kimball data modeling techniques

  • Analytical process knowledge (governance, measurement, etc.)

  • Database tuning, capacity management, and resource forecasting

  • Experience with Azure DevOps documenting and progressing tickets/bugs through sprint release
    Presents initiative and a positive attitude.

Preferred Job Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of the retail and distribution industry and its functions including the following areas:  Finance, Retail Sales, Manufacturing, Purchase Order Entry, Supply Chain Management, Inventory Management, and Merchandising.
  • Experience with agile software development.
  • Experience with Dataverse
