General Description

The Staff Accountant is a key member of the finance department and is responsible for maintaining the underlying business transaction details that reflect and document the financial activities of the organization. This is a challenging, highly visible role that requires problem solving and the ability to work cross functionally and with external parties.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly close activities, such as prepare journal entries, roll-forwards, and reconciliations of GL accounts and maintain accurate supporting documentation
  • Help prepare monthly & annual financial statements for executive level reporting package
  • Analyze financial statements and perform variance analysis
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Support annual financial statement audit as well as statutory audits to ensure compliance
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by finance director

Additional Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with cross functional teams and various departments to ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Develop and document accounting processes and policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

Job Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 2+ years of experience in an accounting, finance, audit, or tax function; CPA is a plus but not required
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel; prior experience with financial reporting systems a plus (Preferred: D365)
  • Thorough understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and accounting skills
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized
