General Position Summary

An HR Investigator plays a vital role within the Lids Human Resources Department and is responsible for efficiently and impartially investigating complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, violation of company policies, and other work-related issues. We seek a skilled HR Investigator with a strong background in employment law to join our team and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.  This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

This position works fully in-person at the Lids corporate office in NW Indianapolis.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides support and guidance to the Employee Relations Specialists when complex employee relations issues arise, including discrimination complaints, harassment allegations, retaliation based on protected status or activity, and workplace investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommends best practices and reviews policies to maintain compliance.  Partners with external counsel as needed/required.
  • Provide guidance on handling employee grievances and disputes.
  • Identify legal risks related to employment practices, policies, and procedures. Provide proactive advice and solutions to mitigate risks and minimize potential liability.
  • Provide litigation support by liaising between the organization and external legal counsel in employment-related litigation matters. Support investigations and discovery. Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in handling sensitive HR and legal matters. Ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees while protecting the organization's interests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Required Knowledge & Skills

  • A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in employment law and internal investigations, preferably in a Corporate and Retail setting.
  • Knowledge of multiple federal and state-respective employment laws.  Experience in California law is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Job Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in California law.
  • Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR are preferred.
