General Description

The POS Engineer assists with system configuration, configuration management, system testing and production implementation of the point of sale and related systems. This position is part of a group of specialists in tier 3 support for the LIDS point of sale and related retail systems.  Under the direction of the Director of Technology, the POS Engineer will participate in assigned application testing and configuration enhancements that enable a positive end-user experience.  This position will work closely with the Senior POS Engineer, who is responsible for communicating status, any technical issues uncovered and their resolution. 

The POS Engineer completes technical tasks, including: analyzing work requests from customers for retail applications changes, assessing risks, assisting team in developing technical solutions, and mentoring other team members in applications and technical skills.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Modify system configuration settings to change the behavior of the systems.
  • Participate in finding ways to increase efficiency, minimize operating expense and improve system performance.
  • Test, implement, and roll out new POS systems. Support all phases from planning to deploy of future releases of POS software and components.
  • Provide level 3 support for the LIDS POS and related Retail Systems.
  • Review project plans and provide feedback to Product Owners
  • Continually enhance and expand technical knowledge of the POS, external systems and tools utilized by the POS Team and Helpdesk.
  • Manage a library of configurations for a variety of different store types. 

Additional Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand IT stakeholders, business and customer expectations, needs and goals.
  • Participate in addressing Production support failure incidents /Root Cause Analysis with DBA team and provide direction in problem resolution.
  • Quality assurance testing of new version of the POS and related software including both manually entered test cases and use of automated test tools.
  • Development and documentation of test cases.
  • Assist with the development of training materials for use by the stores and HelpDesk.
  • Supporting and adhering to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Document requirements and specifications to hand off to outside vendors to solve business needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic knowledge of the retail sales industry.
  • Knowledge of the point of sale systems in a retail environment.
  • Strong communication skills with non-technical personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the willingness to learn from other associates.
  • Awareness of project management requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence or persuade others in positive or negative circumstances.
  • Ability to manage tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of external systems and payment gateways, and how they interact with the POS.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability and willingness for occasional travel (business meetings and/or training).
