General Description

Under the direction of the IT Director, the Product Owner is responsible for working with both the scrum teams and product management to ensure the effective application of Agile practices under the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).  The primary objective of this role is to translate the business vision, goals, and objectives such that the scrum teams can successfully plan and implement valuable solutions. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

•    Works with product management, specifically Product Managers, to understand their vision and gains a detailed knowledge of their objectives. 
•    Serves as the primary owner of a set of products (applications).  Fully understands the functionality of the products stays current with available updates. 
•    Maintains a solid understanding of the market, customer, and business in order to make sound decisions regarding the features their product will have. 
•    Translates their vision and objectives into stories that development teams can use to build products and features. 
•    Writes acceptance criteria for stories and features.  Measures the team’s solutions against this criterion and either accepts or rejects the solutions. 
•    Acts as liaison between customer and software developers. 
•    Provides recommendations for solutions and enhancements. 
•    Maintains account ownership for problem determination, research, resolution and follow-up on customer issues. 
•    Owns the team backlog and is responsible for keeping it updated and prioritized. 
•    Provides product objectives to the team during sprint planning sessions. 
•    Stays actively involved daily and directly with the scrum team to assist their efforts to build solutions. 
•    Works to remove team roadblocks. 
•    Gets into technical details with the team to help evaluate the merit of various approaches to delivering product capabilities. 
•    Ensure product acceptance and readiness at key phases of the delivery cycle. 
•    Develop communication materials and lead communication efforts around the product, priorities and future roadmaps. 
•    Effectively communicate to and lead a broad range of people at multiple levels within the organization. 
•    Works closely with other Product Owners to ensure product dependencies are synchronized. 
•    Works closely with the system architect to build products that are consistent with one another and to ensure that appropriate enablers are in place to support each product. 
•    Supports the Scrum Master in applying SAFe principles and practices within the team. 
•    Assists in the identification and mitigation of project risks. 
•    Supports and adheres to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines, including maintaining an in-depth awareness of all compliance related requirements. 
•    Assists the Scrum Master in the escalation for emergency issues with products for which the scrum team is responsible. 
•    Assists with other tasks and projects as assigned. 


Additional Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Job Required Knowledge & Skills

•    Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent. 
•    5+ years’ experience in IT development-related positions.  
•    5+ years’ experience as a project manager, business analyst, senior developer, or scrum master for a software development team that was applying Agile/Scrum principles and practices. 
•    Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum principles and practices. 
•    Strong experience or JIRA, Azure Boards, or a similar tool. 
•    Experience writing epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria. 
•    Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency. 
•    Ability to anticipate issues based on experience to help the team avoid or resolve the issues. 
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills including active listening and the ability to influence or persuade others in positive or negative circumstances. 
•    Knowledge of common business applications and collaboration tools. 
•    Certified Product Owner is a plus. 
•    Familiar with SAFe and/or other enterprise agile frameworks. 
•    General knowledge of the following areas:  Finance, Human Capital Management, Sales Order Entry, Supply Chain Management, Distribution, Warehousing, Inventory Management, Retail Sales, and Merchandising.  
•    Willingness and ability to accept after-hours support calls and the dedication to resolve after-hours calls to resolution, as necessary to support the business. 
•    Ability and willingness to travel frequently between Lids’ corporate office and distribution center (2 miles). 
•    Ability and willingness for occasional long-distance travel (business meetings and/or training), usually not more than 2-3 per year.
