Operating out of Indianapolis, IN, Lids retail stores and affiliated concepts offer officially licensed headwear from collegiate teams and major professional sports teams, as well as branded headwear and other specialty fashion categories in the latest styles and trends in over 1,200 locations and counting. Lids is currently in growth mode with the goal to open a significant number of stores, both domestically and internationally, as well as with the goal to help grow Lids to be the largest brick-and-mortar licensed sports retailer globally.
General Position Summary
Lids is striving to become a data driven company and requires talented individuals to fulfill the Data Modeler role. We are seeking a skilled Data Modeler with a strong background in the Retail Industry and experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O). The ideal candidate will model data, champion data governance, elicit functional requirements, define terms, and capture business logic. This role requires a solid understanding of data engineering and report development using the latest Microsoft stack of cloud analytical tools and best practices in modern data warehousing.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop, maintain, and optimize data models to support BI initiatives across various business processes such as finance, supply chain, inventory management, sales, and customer insights.
· Champion data governance, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance across all data sources and processes.
· Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit and document functional requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals and strategies.
· Define business terms and capture business logic for accurate data representation, facilitating clear communication and understanding across the organization.
· Work closely with the BI team to develop and deliver insightful reports and dashboards using the latest Microsoft cloud analytical tools (e.g., Analysis Services, Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics).
· Apply best practices in data modeling, including star schema design, normalization, and the use of modern data modeling tools such as ER/Studio or ERwin.
· Support data integration and transformation processes, ensuring efficient and accurate data flow from various sources into the data warehouse.
· Define and document technical requirements to support data engineering efforts.
· Address data quality issues commonly found in retail environments, such as duplicate records, inconsistent data, and missing values, by implementing robust data validation and cleansing processes.
· Validate/Test data solutions put in place to ensure they adhere to intended design.
Additional Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Stay up to date with the latest trends in data modeling and data warehousing, incorporating new techniques and technologies to improve data management and analytics capabilities.
· Participate in change control activities
· Support and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
· Manage the goals and objectives established with the supervisor.
· Communicate with employees at all levels of the company.

Job Required Knowledge & Skills
· Bachelor’s Level Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent degree
· Five or more years of business experience in moderate to large-sized corporate environments.
· Five or more years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or higher.
· Extensive database system knowledge, database theory, database security, database design, capacity planning, performance analysis, and change management.
· Proven experience in data modeling and data governance, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by global retailers.
· Strong background in the Retail Industry, with knowledge of business processes such as finance, supply chain management, inventory control, sales analytics, and customer behavior analysis.
· Experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O).
· Solid understanding of data engineering principles, including ETL/ELT processes, data integration, and data transformation.
· Proficiency in report development using the latest Microsoft cloud analytical tools (e.g., Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex data quality issues and ensure data accuracy and reliability.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
· Presents initiative and a positive attitude.
Preferred Job Required Knowledge & Skills
· Experience with advanced data analytics and data visualization tools.
· Familiarity with Azure Synapse Analytics and other Microsoft Azure data services.
· Demonstrated ability to support a data-driven organization by implementing best practices in data modeling and data management.
· Knowledge of the latest trends in data modeling, such as the use of data lakes, lake houses, and near real-time data processing.
· Experience in the following areas:
o Azure Data Factory
o Azure SQL /Microsoft SQL Server
o Transact SQL
o Intermediate to complex stored procedures and triggers
o Analysis Services (SSAS) – Tabular Modeling

o Azure Synapse Analytics
o Power BI
o Microsoft Dynamics 365
· Strong working knowledge of the retail and distribution industry and its functions including the following areas: Finance, Retail Sales, Manufacturing, Purchase Order Entry, Supply Chain Management, Inventory Management, and Merchandising.
· Experience with agile software development
